Carmen Mario Villone, 89, of 4527 Marlboro Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at his home. He was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., was a retired pipe fitter and had helped establish local pipe fitters unions. He played professional football for the New York Rangers in the late 1920s and early 30s and earned the nickname "The Flying Dutchman." He also boxed professionally as "Kid Villone." He was a violinist and a cartoonist and was a veteran of the Naval Militia.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Diana Villone; a son, Dr. Arnold L. Villone of El Cajon, Calif.; a daughter, Diana Simpao of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
