She was born August 7, 1929, in Enola, the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna (Wright) Brooks.
Bertha was the widow of Robert F. Hickman.
She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown and also the Susquehanna and the New Cumberland Golden Age Clubs, as well as the Eagles Club of Carlisle. Bertha enjoyed bowling, bingo and camping.
She is survived by her four daughters, Nancy M. McElwee of Dillsburg, Diane R. Taylor of Gardners, Debra K. Brooks of Louisville, KY, and Karen J. Hughes of Mechanicsburg; one brother, Donald Brooks of Camp Hill. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and was expecting her ninth great-grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg with the Rev. Michael L. Seifried officiating. Burial will follow in the Highspire Cemetery. Viewings will be held Friday from 7-9 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am at the funeral home.
