Riley, Lloyd John
4/8/1925 - 11/16/2011

Son, brother, father, grandfather and friend, passed away in Auburn, California on November 16, 2011, at the age of 86 years and 7 months.
Lloyd, also know to many as John, was born in Auburn on April 8, 1925. He attended local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving as an Electrician's Mate in the European Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After his separation from Naval service, he became a member of the California National Guard and married Betty Deitrick of Richmond, Virginia, and they started their family. In January 1949 he re-enlisted in the Regular Army. During his Army career spanning over 31 years, CSM LJ Riley, served at duty stations all over the world including Korea, Japan, Turkey and Vietnam, as well as his various state-side assignments. He retired from the Military in 1975.
In his post-military years, John enjoyed woodworking and being handyman to all who needed his help. He remodeled many kitchens and baths in Auburn, and put a stop to many leaky faucets. Almost until his last day, he was making improvements to his own home, with the assistance of a young handyman to do all the heavy lifting of course!
Lloyd is survived by his brother Robert Riley and sister Barbara Sedgley, both of Auburn. And by children Terry Riley, Kim Surface, and Lisa Kodl, who reside in the area. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous other family members and many, many friends who will miss him, including his loyal canine friend Brandi. Lloyd is predeceased by his wife Betty, and oldest son, Michael.
Friends are invited to attend Lloyd's Memorial Service at Lassila Funeral Chapel, 551Grass Valley Hwy in Auburn, on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service.

The family would like to sincerely thank some wonderful people who helped our Dad stay where he wanted to be for as long as he was able. They include his brother Bob, for his daily visits, his "Gal Friday" Linda, and his Home Instead caregivers, including Dixie and Christina (aka Tina), and Kevi, among others, and Handyman Justin. He could not have done it without you.
