Henry David Payne, formerly a resident of Douglas county was seriously injured at Peace River, Alberta, Canada, on Sunday, June 19, by having his team of horses run away and remains were shipped to Waterville reaching here last Friday evening.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. E. C. Newham of the M E Church, Saturday morning and interment made in Fraternity cemetery.

Deceased was born in 1863 in North Carolina, where he resided until grown to manhood and in the year 1882 was married to Miss Cecilia Shuford. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom are still living and were present at the funeral. They are; Mrs. N. F. Shultz, of Redmond, Wash.; Mrs. Ray Perkins, of Seattle; Henry, who resides in the northern part of Douglas county; Mrs. Phil Flett of Spangle, Wash.; Mrs. Luther Perkins of Brewster, Wash.; Jepthy, Lorenzo, Arthur, who were with their father but will remain in this county, and Miss Mozelle of Seattle. The mother passed on twelve years ago.

Mrs. Payne came west in 1894, settling first in the Palouse country where he resided until 1905, when he moved his family to Douglas county, locating on a ranch in the Mansfield country. About eight years ago he moved to Bridgeport and spent a winter there and then to Okanogan, where he lived until three years ago when he went to Peace River, Alberta, Canada.

Deceased was a member of the Baptist church, a good citizen and a loving father. His death is mourned by a large circle of friends, who will join the EMPIRE-PRESS to extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
