IN MEMORIAM
Mrs. Maria Ashe Marshall, widow of the late James Clement Marshall, and daughter of Judge Thomas S. Ashe and wife - Caroline Burgwyn entered into the rest of Paradise at Wadesboro N.C. the 3rd day of August. She was born at the "Hermitage", the home of her grandfather, near Wilmington. N.C. the 15th day of Dec. 1841. and was united in holy matrimony with James Clement Marshall in Wadesboro, N.C, the 6th day of Nov. 1866. Two sons and two daughters were born to them, three of whom are now living; namely: Thomas A. Marshall and William L. Marshall, of Wadesboro, N.C, and Mrs. Ethel M. DePass, wife ot Mr. N.I. DePass, of Charlotte, N.C. The other daughter, "Nida," departed this life Dec. the 12th 1895. Two sisters of Mrs. Marshall also survive her, namely: Mrs. Eliza Hines, of Wilson, N.C., and Miss Josephine Ashe, of Wadesboro, N.C, also one brother, Mr. S.T. Ashe of Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Marshall died in the communion of the Episcopal church, of which she was a lifelong member. She was a person of remarkably lovely, and attractive character and disposition, a faithful and devout wife and mother, and was greatly beloved by those who knew her. She was for many years an invalid, and waited patiently for the summons that should call her to join her husband and daughter and the innumerable host that surrounds the throne on high. May the Lord grant rest and peace to her soul. The funeral services were conducted in Calvary church, Wadesboro, North Carolina, by the Rev. A.S. Thomas of Cheraw, South Carolina, and her remains laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery of Wadesboro, "until the day break, and the shadows flee away."
