Russell Horton, 76, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Select
Speciality in Ridgeland. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood
South Memorial Park, visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lakewood South Funeral
Home.
Mr. Horton was born in Lawrence Co. in 1929, his parents are the late Claude
Webb Horton and Edell Russell Horton Lewis. He was a member of Holly Springs
Baptist Church in Copiah County.
Mr. Horton was employed with Bortunco of America for over 38 years, then he and
a friend bought the business and named it H&C Road Boring and Tunneling. He was
a dedicated worker and enjoyed what he was doing.
In Mr. Horton's earlier years he and his wife, Jean liked riding motorcycles,
they would ride all over the countryside, later they enjoyed camping and would
travel out West. Mr. Horton loved nature and watching the squirrels in his back
yard. Mr. Horton's family said he had a great sense of humor and loved making
people laugh. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and
great-grandfather.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years, Jean Wells Horton of Terry; a son,
Wesley Horton of Jackson; two daughters, Barbara Javer of Memphis, and Gwen
Holland of Flowood; three step children, Judy Kershaw, Joni Barbee, and Jim
Selden, Jr.; one brother, Frank Lewis of Wesson; two sisters, Elsie Ashley also
of Wesson and Patsy Hamilton of Crystal Springs, numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
