Per the Sacramento Bee published July 20, 1926 Mrs. Symington had obtained a divorce a year ago from Lieut. Commander Thomas A. Symington, United States Navy. Her marriage to Captain Smith was her third marriage. She was the daughter of John DeWitt Cloud of Shreveport, Louisiana.
In 1924, he was one of the pilots who performed the first aerial circumnavigation of the world.
His death was the result of a horse riding accident in the Catalina Foothills of Arizona.
