"He moved to Bates county, Missouri in 1882 at Marvel Bridge on Marais des Cygnes river....He did not drink....My father passed away December 8, 1908, as the result of a fall on a rock at the back door. He was only 56 years of age."
Thursday, January 14, 1909, in "Word and Way", Kansas City, Missouri
Deacon Wesley S. Mullis departed this life December 8, 1908. He was born in North Carolina July 16, 1853, and was converted and united with the Baptist church at the age of 16 years, and lived a consecrated life until the moment of his death. He moved to Bates county, Missouri, in 1882, and settled near Worland, which place has been his field of labor ever since. He was a charter member, and the first deacon of the First Baptist church of Worland. The deceased leaves a wife, five sons and four daughters to mourn his loss. They are all members of the church that their father loved so well, except the 5-year-old daughter. The eldest son, Ivan, has labored by his father's side in the deaconship for a number of years.
He was a kind and indulgent father, a true and devoted husband, and his pastor's worthy counselor. As his pastor I always found him in the right, and a strong defender of the faith, and a might factor in the hands of God to lead men to Christ.
The funeral was conducted in the church by his pastor, December 9, in the presence of a large audience of friends and relatives. Scripture used, Rev. 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
