Husband of Maude Lorene Cann
He was in WWII with the Army. He was in a train wreck that happened while they were transporting them in the US. Two trains collided head on (Still trying to locate more info for the accident). He was sitting at a table playing cards with a friend when they felt something go wrong, they braced themselves and tried to get down as low as possible. They considered him one of the "walking wounded". He had to help carry the dead, survivors, and injuried out of the wreckage. Their was one soldier that was killed and the injuries were very bad so he took off his coat and covered him. They took that soldier's body and his coat away and my grandfather never got it back and the Army charged him for that coat and a replacement.
After he came back from overseas his next duty was guarding the Empire state building. He was at the top with a 40 mm gun that when shot would rock the building back about 3-4 feet and it took almost 10 min for the swaying to stop.
After the war him and my grandmother opened and operated a gas station in Bracken, Kentucky until they moved to Hollywood, Fla in the 50's. They lived in the same house which was on Greene Street in Hollywood for nearly 50 years.
