A Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Ruby Ida Curley Parker, 87, of Floral City, who died on Saturday, October 24, 2009, will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, with the Rev. Mike Fonfara officiating. Burial will follow at the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Floral City. Friends may call on the family at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory on Monday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions in Mrs. Parker's memory to the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 South Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325 or at their Web site, www.thornwellhome.org or to the Girl Scouts, 1831 N. Mrs. Parker was born on September 19, 1922, on the Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River Indian Reservation, in Ontario, Canada. She was the eldest daughter of the late Samuel J. and Grace L. Hill-Curley. She was member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness since 1956. Mrs. Parker had been very active in her community with activities including Girl Scouts, the 4-H, Cub Scouts and Garden Club. She had served as the President of the PTA and in recognition of her activities was recognized by the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce for the Outstanding Community Service Award in 1975. She had a love of travel and traveled to 25 countries. As a child, she saw a picture of the Great Wall of China and had dreamed of climbing the Great Wall one day. She was able to achieve that childhood dream in 2000 at the age of 79.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Curley; a sister, Ruth (Dolly) Druyff and her husband Klaas Druyff; and brother-in-law, Gerry Druyff. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles Jones Parker; 1 son, Bryne H. Parker and his wife Sandy; 1 daughter, Carolyn F. Parker; 3 grandsons, J. Gregg Campbell, Jeremy Parker and his wife Susan, and Josh Parker; 3 sisters, Jean Ross and her husband Leon, Mary (Babe) Auge and her husband Henry, and Mildred Druyff; 2 brothers, Frank R. Curley and Samual H. Curley. The Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
