Son of Mr. & Mrs. George Kasper who resided in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

George served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class, U.S.S. Denver (CL-58), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

George enlisted in the Navy on September 8, 1942.

The U.S.S. Denver, during a heavy air attack off Cape Torokina, Solomon Islands, was hit by an aerial torpedo which knocked out all power and communications and killed 20 of her men.

George was "Killed In Action" during this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Guadalcanal and was later repatriated here on September 7, 1950.

Service # 6424982

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
