Son of Jacob Arford and Rebecca Scott.

Enlisted as a Private on 15 July 1862, Company B, 27th Infantry Regiment Indiana, Transferred into 70th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 4 Nov 1864, Transferred out of Company B, 27th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 4 Nov 1864.

After the Civil War, William returned to Washington, Indiana. He later became one of the Oak Grove Cemetery trustees. He was originally buried in an area reserved for trustees and past trustees of the cemetery. Before her death his wife had him moved to another spot in a newer section.


Gravesite Details This current location is an approximation. The stone was propped against a tree and the cemetery manager installed it in this spot. Cemetery records are unclear as to the exact location of the site to where the marker was moved in November 1915.
