George Washington Nelson, fought with the Confederates in the Civil War, was captured & went to an Illinois prison. There he was offered to become a "Galvanized Yankee" & join the USA army to go west to fight the Indians & was promised to never to be stationed back in the South. Afterward, he went back to Junction City, Union, Louisiana, & married 28 Mar 1868.
