Ruth was born on January, 16, 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents, of Cherokee Indian descent, Walter and Melinda (Islehardt) Osburn.
The family moved to Alva, Oklahoma and Ruth graduated from Alva High School in 1937.
Ruth married Marcus V. Blumer on March 27, 1940. They remained in Woodward, Oklahoma until they moved to Independence in 1956.
She worked as an inspector for Electra Manufacturing (ACC), retiring from ACC in 1987. Following her husband's death in 1992, she remained in Independence. She moved to Tulsa in 2001. Ruth was a past member of the Assembly of God Church of Independence and she was active in music ministry. She will be remembered by her modesty, personality, and love for her family. Ruth was a devout Christian.
Ruth is survived by five children, Dorothy Matthews of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Norman Blumer of Independence, Kansas, Larry Blumer of Neodesha, Kansas, Karen Chambers of Jenks, Oklahoma and Randy Blumer of Independence, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Glaze, Peyson, Arizona, and Margie Osburn of Billings, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, Missy, Debi, Mindy, Mark, Darren, Jamey, Courtney, Dane, Matt, Drayton and Chris; six great grandchildren, Leah, Jacob, Caitlin, Marcus, Jesse, and Cai. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Emanuel Osburn and one sister, Louise Garvie.
Visitation hours for Ruth will be held Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Chapel of Independence.
Funeral services for Ruth A. Blumer will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Chapel of Independence.
Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to Teen Challenge, Decatur, Illinois. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
