Appendix R
The Hankey-Hanover Connection
A German Infusion Into English Indiana-Kansas Families

There was, almost contemporaneously, another German-English union in the Moore family. Rebecca Moore, sister of Israel and Isaac and daughter of Lura Belle Smith and James Butler Moore, married George Schreiber, a German born in Baden. When her parents died, Rebecca and George Schreiber inherited the piece of land that included the family burial plot ("lost for many years"). In this plot were buried both family patriarchs, James Butler Moore and Asa Smith, as well as sons, Sylvester Moore who died mysteriously, and Zephaniah Smith, a weaver, spinner and veteran of the war of 1812.
