A blunt statement by 4-year-old Kenneth Coffee made known the death of his brother, Albert Elwood Coffee, 14, who was found strangled to death by a rope in a small barn near the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Coffee, on the Gulf Dial Pipe Line lease near Stinnett around 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Kenneth, who had been sent to the barn by his father to tell Albert to come to the house and "clean up," returned saying his brother "is asleep in the barn with a rope around his neck."

Albert was found lying on the floor of the shed by his father who immediately applied artificial respiration in an attempt to revive the boy. In some manner Albert had tied or the rope had become caught, in a paling of a hay manger with the other end around his neck. It is believed the youth then jumped or fell from the top of the partition upon which he was sitting and the jolt of the fall caused strangulation and instantaneous unconsciousness.

Kenneth told Sheriff Dan Hardee he found his brother slumped over on the floor, then climbed up and untied the end of the rope from around the top of the hay chute, then untied the rope from his brother's neck before going to the house where he told his father what had occurred.

The dead youth's father told the sheriff Albert had gone to the shed a short time after dinner and he had sent his son to tell him to return to the house.

Albert was a student in the Plemons High School and had been a member of the football team.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the American Legion hall with the Carver-Powell Funeral chapel in charge. Albert was a member of the Hutchinson county post of Sons of the Legion. Burial will be at Lieb.

Other than his parents surviving are three brothers, Wade, Ted Carter, and Kenneth; a sister, Effie Coffee; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Coffee, Pampa, and Mr. and Mrs. E. Searce of Morse.
