Scherping, Carl L., Saginaw, Michigan.
Retired supervisor of the City of Saginaw Waste Water Maintenance Department passed away at St. Mary's Hospital Monday, May 16, 1983. Age 81 years. He was born Jan. 26, 1902, in Saginaw and was graduated from the Arthur Hill Trade School. He married Miss Linda Popp May 23, 1929. She survives him. He had been employed by the City of Saginaw from 1928 until retiring in 1966. He was a lifelong member of the Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr.Scherping was a life member and Past Master of Salina Lodge No. 155 F&AM, a 50-year member of Saginaw Valley Chapter No. 31 R.A.M., a life member of Salina No. 439 O.E.S., a life member of St. Bernard Commandery No. 16, Knights Templar, a life member and honorary member of the Directors Staff of Elf Khurafeh Shrine, a member of the Shrine Caravan Club and the Saginaw Masonic Retirees Club and the Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church Retirees Club. Surviving besides his wife is a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Scherping. His only child, Richard L. Scherping, predeceased him in 1978. He also leaves five grandchildren, Mrs. Craig (Peggy) Stolz, David, Jeanne, Jody and Mindy Scherping, all of Saginaw; a great-grandson, Eric Stolz, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews one of whom is Charles Scherping of Charlevoix, Mi., who made his home with the Scherpings when a teenager.
Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Case Chapel, 409 Adams St. Rev. David Morgan will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. Members of Salina Lodge No. 155 F&AM will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Those who so desire may make memorials to the Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church, the Saginaw County Cancer Association or the Shrine Crippled Children's Club.
