He was born near Eufaula, OK, and was the son of Roy and Effie Dean Prater Wright. After his schooling he served in the United States Army in the field artillery. After his discharge, he married Clarabelle McCormick. They made their home in Indianola where they farmed and ranched and he also owned and operated the general store in Indianola. He then worked for several years at the United States Naval Ammunition Depot and then moved to McAlester and was a salesman for McCann Chevrolet until retirement in 1988. He was a member of the First (Grand Avenue) United Methodist Church of McAlester, was a 32 degree Masonic member of Masonic Blue Lodge No. 550 and a Scottish Rite member of the McAlester Consistory. Survivors include his wife, Clarabelle McCormick Wright, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Milstead, Conroe, Texas; a grandson, Thomas Milstead and wife, Jodi, Conroe, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Colby and Mackenzie Milstead, Conroe, Texas; sister-in-law, Pauline McCormick, of McAlester; caregivers, Lucy Nobles, Linda Griffith and Pat VanMeter, and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Dub Weeks, Bill Erkin, Fred Ingraham, Ronald Allford, Oben Weeks and Allen Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be John H. West, Raymond Trammell, Johnny Weeks, James Countz and Roy Bynum. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. Charles Neff officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
