George Paul Kelley (later changed to Kelly) Born in Isle la Motte or Alburgh, Vermont. Served in Co. K 11th Vermont Infntry during the Civil War. Captured at the Weldon Railroad 6/23/1864. Survved Adersonville. Sent to Millen, Georgia, 11/11/64. Paroled 3/1/65. Mustered out 7/7/65. Returned briefly to Isle la Motte to be married. In 1866 he was living in North Bangor, Franklin County, New York. On the 1880 Federal census he is listed as a farm laborer living in Potsdam Town (Norwood), New York. In 1882 he moved to nearby Norfolk, New York. Residing in Norfolk on the SFVHA 1890 Roster. Died 10/4/1932 at age 88 due to "infirmities of old age and paralysis" according to his obituary which noted: "He enlisted in the Union army at the outbreak of the Civil War and served with the Eleventh Vermont Heavy Artillery. Part of his time in the service was spent as a prisoner in various prisons of the south. Among them were the famous Andersonville prison where he was imprisoned for some time. In describing his war experiences, Mr. Kelly often described the horrors of prison life in war camp during the conflict between the North and the South. He was not only the last veteran of the Civil War in the town of Norfolk, but also the last member of the GAR post in Norwood." Buried in the High Street Cemetery at Norfolk. Granted an invalid pension in 1888 from New York. Also listed as G. P. Kelly at Andersonville. He was a member of the John Andrus GAR post of Norfolk.
