Sandra Darlene (Jackson) Gross Grills, 75, passed away at 1:19 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton.

She was born in Alton June 25, 1934, the daughter of William M. and Tressie B. (Henderson) Jackson.

She married Robert E. Gross in 1955, the father of Terri and Mark Gross.

Sandra married Calvin Grills Dec. 7, 1967, in Alton, Illinois, the father of Alan, Arlie, and Danny. He preceded her in death in February 1998.

She was employed at St. Anthony's Hospital as a CNA, and then moved to an operator position at the hospital. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Alton. She enjoyed reading and crocheting, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by six children and their spouses, Juane and Danny Barr of Fieldon, Terri and Louis Williams of Alton, Mark and Colleen Gross of Hardin, Alan Grills of Meadowbrook, Arlie and Charlene Grills of Alton and Danny and Linda Grills of Utah; 18 grandchildren, Lisa Welch, Michele Giesler, Matthew Zimmerman, Joy Hudson, Steven Williams, Justin Williams, Shannon Boxdorfor, Corey Dey, Joshua Gross, Chad Grills, Brendon Grills, Lainey Grills, Keri Grills, Rob Grills, Sean Grills, Phillip Grills, Amanda Bylsma and Christine Osborne, 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Minola Jackson of Orange County, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and one sister-in-law, William Jackson and Robert and Violet Jackson.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until funeral service time at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Jim Johnston will officiate.

Memorials may be made to St. Clare's Day Care Activity Department.

Sandra is being cremated and her ashes will be buried at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Bethalto, Illinois on Saturday, October 24, 2009 next to her Uncle Robert 'Bert' Jackson and Aunt Violet, and Calvin Grills, her husband.
