As a member of the Eastern Greene Co. community, John served as a volunteer firefighter for 34 years. During this time, he also was a member and Past President of the Eastern Greene Co. Fire Dept. Board and was the head investigator for the department. He also had been a member of the Greene Co. Ambulance Service and a Emergency Medical Technician. He served two terms on the Eastern Greene County School Board of Trustees and was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Hendricksville Area Association, the Solsberry Masonic Lodge #411 and the Greene Co. United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Hosteter) Doane; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Emerick Roudebush and husband Randy of Bloomington; one son, Greg Doane of Bloomington; one granddaughter, Brigit Emerick; one grandson, Noah Roudebush; two sisters, Jean Holeman of Bloomington and Carol (husband Ronnie) Mishler of New Port Richey, Fl; two brothers, Bill (wife Phyllis) Doane of Newark and Bob (wife Norma) Doane of Evansville along with his little four legged friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the Greene Co. Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed. Beadle officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37, Bloomington on Monday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. IVFA Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday followed by Masonic Lodge Memorial services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
