MATHEWS - Funeral services for William Sidney Fitchett, 83, who died in a Rock Hill. S. C. hospital on Saturday, October 9. Were held on Monday, October 11, at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Norfolk at 3:00 P. M. with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mr. Fitchett, who had spent more than 50 years of his life on the water, retired a number of years ago.
A native of Mathews County he had been a resident of Norfolk for 64 years, moving to Fort Mill S. C. a short time ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Elms.
Surviving him are five daughters, Mrs. M. J. Green, and Mrs. H. E. Albrecht, both of Norfolk; Mrs. P. H. Riker, of Plainfield, N. J., Mrs. J. W. Elms of Fort Mill, S. C. and Mrs. . S. Elms of Charlotte, N. C.; a son, John W. Fitchett of Hampton: 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and a number of relatives in the county.
He was a charter member of Ocean View Lodge, No. 335 A. F and A. M and Master Mates and Pilots Association of America., No 9 and a member of Ocean View Methodist Church.
Among those who attended services were W. D. Moore, O. J. Moore and Coles Thomas of Mathews.
