ALTENBURG-Henry and Catherine Zimmerman Altenburg settled in Allegany on the South Nine Mile Road about 1845. Henry was born in Montgomery Co., NY in 1799 (Son of Wm., a Hessian soldier in the Prinz Carl Regiment and Elizabeth Mosher Altenburg). Catherine Zimmerman was also born in Montgomery Co., 1808 (daughter of Jacob and Mary Hager Zimmerman). They first lived in Ellington, Chautauqua Co., from 1828-1845 before coming to Allegany. Their Children were: 1. Louisa, m. David Soule; 2. Helen, m. Milan Soule; 3. John, m. Eunice Soule; 4. Harriet, m. Warren Russell; Isaiah, m. Melissa Grimes; Morris, killed in Civil War; Kathleen, n. Gilbert Soule; Henry, m. Elizabeth Monroe; 9. Isabel, m. Lot A. Merrill.
