Edmund R. Vanderbilt of 41 Neperan Rd, lifelong resident and member of one of the oldest families in this ares, whose great grandfather found the Vanderbilt Funeral Home in 1846, died at 12:05 a.m. today at home. He was 80 years old.
He was born in Tarrytown, the son of Charles M. and Estelle Storms Vanderbilt.
Surving are his wife, the former Marie Bolton, one sister, Mrs. Florence Dorman, three nephews, Douglas Dorman, Kenneth Dorman, and H. Graham Hubble; two nieces, Mrs. Gerald Weiss and Mrs. J. Kenneth Lyden; and a cousin Mrs. Carrie Vanderbilt Wells.
He was educated in the local schools and later operated the local haberdashery shop on South Main St. When his father passed away he and his brother Walter ran the Vanderbilt Funeral Home.
He was a veteran of WWI serving in the Navy on the destroyer USS Huron,
and was on the founding board of the American Legion, a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and an active member of Solomans Lodge 196 F & A.M.
Funeral will be at the Vanderbilt Funeral Home and internment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
