Mrs. Emma Florence Thayer, 74, 605 Garfield ave., widow of a former leader in the American piano industry, died at 10:45 a.m. yesterday in her home after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Thayer was born May 4, 1873 in Wells, ME., the daughter of Lorin Stoddard Clark, and Susan Abby Hatch Clark. She was married April 16, 1894, in Boston, Mass., to Warren B. Thayer.
The couple came to Rockford in 1911 when Mr. Thayer assumed charge of the Kurtz Action company here. In 1818 he changed to firm name to the Thayer Action company and was an executive officer in the business until his retirement June 30, 1938. Mr. Thayer preceded his wife in death Jan. 7, 1939.
Mrs. Thayer was a life member of Rockford's Women's club, an active of the Colony of New England Women, serving on the national board of the organization, and a member of the Rockford Country Club.
Surviving are her son, Myron, and two grandchildren, John Alden and Georgeann Thayer, all of Rockford. Besides her husband, a daughter Doris, a son, Minot, three sisters and three brothers preceeded her in death.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the residence. Dr. John Gordon of Second Congregational church will officiate, and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Arrangements were completed at Burpee-Wood funeral home, 420 North Main st.
