According to the 1910 U.S. Census, he lived in Seattle, King Co., Washington with his parents Frank W. and Carrie A. Nye and his siblings Ada A., William B., Jane, and Donald D. He was working as a house shingler.

In June 1917, he filled out a draft registration card while living at 1113 Market, Tacoma, Washington. He listed his parents as his support, but was working as a truckman at the Milwaukee dock on Puget Sound. He was single, age 25, 5' 7", medium build, and had brown eyes, and dark hair. He served as a private in the 166 Dep Brig from April 26, 1918 until May 19, 1918; Provisional F Hosp C, Ft. Riley, Kansas to discharge. He was honorably discharged on December 14, 1918.

In 1920, he was living with his parents and siblings Ada, William, Frank W. (wife Dorothy E.) and Donald in Grand Mound, Thurston Co., Washington and worked as a house carpenter.

He married Fay Marie Agee, daughter of Norman Agee and Clara Mullen, on 5 June 1929 in Centralia, Lewis Co., Washington. In 1930, Stanley and Faye were living in Centralia and he worked as a building contractor. Fay worked as a bookkeeper. He was still building as of April 11, 1959 per notice in the Daily Chronicle, Centralia, for a building permit he was issued.
