Richard Rodney Durst

Mr. Richard Rodney Durst, age 84, husband of Betty Rice of 2505 E. North Avenue, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008 on the 7th hole at Cobbs Glenn Country Club, playing his favorite sport, golf.

Born in Akron, Ohio on April 8, 1924, Mr. Durst was a son of the late Rodney Durst and Beatrice Shrewsbery Durst.

He was a graduate of the University of Akron, and attended Kent State University. He was a United States Air Force World War ll veteran and a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Durst retired from General Tire Company as a Research Scientist. He attended Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson and Foothills Missionary Alliance in Walhalla.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rice Durst of the home; sons, Paul Durst of Stow, Ohio, Mark Durst of Orlando, Fla. and Edward Durst of Brimfield, Ohio; brothers, Jack R. Durst of Minneapolis, Minn. and William R. Durst of Uniontown, Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Donna Knox Durst.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Monty Joseph.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foothills Missionary Alliance Church, located in Walhalla, S.C.
