She and husband Dr. Paul Bres had children Elizabeth "Lizzie" Roane Bres Marable Giles (buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, TX)(see her picture to the right), Catherine (Katie R.) Bres Chatham (buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery), Callie (Clara) Marie Bres (buried in Old City Cemetery, Monroe, LA,) Samuel P. Bres (born in 1867), and probable child Paul Henry Bres (buried in Old City Cemetery, Monroe, LA.) Click on the pictures to the right to read the captions.

Dr. Paul Bres was born in Louisiana in 1829. He was buried in Old City Cemetery, Monroe, LA.

Mary and Paul Bres married May 30, 1854 in Catahoula Parish, LA.

Paul's parents were Jean Baptiste Bres and Marie Sagers Bres. He was born around 1790 in the Parish of St. Michael, Diocese of Nice, Savoy, France and died 19 Nov 1842 and buried in Caldwell Parish, LA. He was buried in St. Matthew Cemetery, Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. He was a plantation owner. Marie his mother was born about 1786 in Germany or Tenn. Date of Death: 11 Apr 1856. She was buried in St. Matthew Cemetery, Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. In my reading about Paul's father coming from Nice, France I (his great great granddaugher) was surprised he was from there, as I spent several days there in 1983. It is a beautiful place in the south of France on the French Riviera on the Mediterrean Sea.

The 1860 census from Alpha, LA, Caldwell Co. shows Paul Bres (spelled in error Bress) 29, Mary 26, Elizabeth 5 (would be my great grandmother), and Catharine 1. At that time he was listed as doing farming.

Dr. Paul Bres' Obituary:
"The Louisiana Intelligencer
Wednesday, December 23, 1868
Page 3, Column 3

DIED at his residence in Caldwell parish, on Thursday, December 17th, (1868) of Rheumatic Fever, Dr. PAUL BRES, aged 39 years."

At the time of Mary's death she was living with her daughter "Kate" (Catherine) Chatham in Vicksburg, MS.

Note: According to the cemetery map it appears Mary Agnes is buried just north of Dogwood St. To the south is a large area called Sister of Mercy.
