Sara Carpathia Weinraub, 87, of the 6400 block of Auburn Drive, died Feb. 18,
2001.
Mrs. Weinraub, a native of Norfolk, was the daughter of Leah and Sam Aks, the
widow of Sidney Weinraub, an was predeceased by her son Michael Weinraub,
formerly of Baltimore, Md., of blessed memory. She was a member of Beth El
Temple and took leadership positions for many years in the Beth El Temple
Sisterhood as well as The Hebrew Ladies Charity Society, Hadassah, and the Beth
Sholom Auxiliary.
Sara is survived by her daughter, Roberta Binder and her husband Gilbert of
Norfolk; three grandchildren, Dr. Lisa Barr and her husband Jeffrey of Norfolk,
Dr. Shelley Binder of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ens. Alan Weinraub of Jacksonville,
Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Joshua Barr of Norfolk; her brother,
Harry Aks and his wife Hilda of Silver Springs, Md.; her sisters-in-law, Marie
Aks of Virginia Beach, Irene Lipsitz of Baltimore, Md., and Roggie Weinraub of
Silver Springs; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beth El Temple, 422 Shirley
Ave., Norfolk, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Jacob Tessler. Burial will be
in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at 2329-301 Shore Sands Court,
Virginia Beach. Donations can be made to Beth El Temple, Beth Sholom Home or to
the charity of the donor's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk
Chapel, is handling arrangements.
