Gene Beck, 80, Fargo, ND died Thursday, July 19, 2007 in Innovis Health, Fargo.

Eugene Beck was born on May 24, 1927 at Alice, ND to George and Adeline (Beilke) Beck and was their only child. He grew up on the family farm in rural Alice, ND and attended grade school in a one room country school only a half mile from his home. Gene graduated from Enderlin High School in Enderlin, ND and entered the U.S. Navy following his graduation. He served aboard the USS Renville, affectionately known as the "Rusty Wren". Following his discharge he attended Wahpeton School of Science for two years and then returned to Alice to take over the family farm.

On September 12, 1953, Gene married Gretchen Hertsgaard in Fargo, ND. During their years together, they continued to farm and also purchased Village West Liquors of Fargo, ND in 1977. Gretchen passed away from an automobile accident on June 16, 1991.

On November 12, 1994, Gene married Marilyn Bunn at Sheldon, ND. In 2000, Gene retired and has continued to reside in Fargo, spending winters in Las Vegas, NV.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Fargo; son, Michael, Fargo; daughter, Michelle (Timothy) Lanigan, Cottage Grove, MN; step-sons, Jeffrey (Jill) Bunn, Sheldon, ND and Brendan (Heather) Bunn, Fargo; step-daughters, Michelle Altman, Enderlin, ND and Julie Thompson, Lisbon ,ND; grandchildren, Brooke, Chad and Amber Wagley; great grand daughter, Michaela Bergeron; step-grandchildren, Rasul, Sophia and J.J. Shishehbor, Erica and Troy Bunn, Douglas Utke, Carrissa and Mariah Thompson, Griffin and Hadley Bunn, and step-great grandson, Noah Simmons.

Visitation: Saturday from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7 in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND and one hour before the service in the Church.

Funeral: Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 2:00 in St. John Lutheran Church, Embden, ND.

Burial: St. John Cemetery, Embden, ND.
