OBITUARY.

Samuel Sallee, Sr., of Reno county, Kansas, was born in Preble county, Ohio, June 18, 1823. In 1841 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Clear, who was also born in Preble, county, Ohio, August 6, 1823. To this union were born ten children, eight of whom were raised to maturity. Jeol B. was born in 1843, was a soldier in the Civil war, and after escaping wounds and death came home only to die of disease contracted in the army, passing away in 1863. John J., who was born in 1845, is a successful farmer of Kingman county and has raised eleven of his twelve children. William, the third son, was also a soldier of his country and was mortally wounded at Chattanooga, and was buried at Nashville, Tenn. Mary, who married Richmond Devoe, was born in Ohio and now resides in Quincy, Ill. Adresta, who was born in Illinois, married Robert Blanchett and now resides near Norwich, Kingman county, Kas. Delilah, who married John Halstrom, now resides in Morocco, Ind. Ellen, who married Benjamin Moore, resides in Hutchinson, Kas. Emma, wife of Blair Corley, resides near Penalosa, Kas. The mother died December 1, 1903, aged 80 years, 3 months and 26 days.

Samuel, the father, died January 20, 1909, aged 85 years, 7 months and 2 days. The six children were all by his bedside when death came. The funeral was held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Emma Corley, conducted by Elder J. B. Martin of Winfield, and his remains were laid to rest in the Lerado cemetery beside his wife. He leaves six children, forty-five grand-children, sixty-one great grand-children, and three great-great-grand-children.

He came to Kansas in 1879, locating on a farm in south Reno, on which he lived till his death. Many changes, many hardships have been experienced in Kansas since he came thirty years ago. One more land-mark has gone. Mr. Sallee was a Christian, a true neighbor, a good citizen. The children have the sympathy of their host of friends.
