The Franklin Democrat, Friday, September 16, 1892, page 1

Charles Knight, who was employed on one of the World’s Fair buildings and killed by a falling piece of iron, was buried at Morgantown Sunday. The funeral was a large one and particularly sad. Only the day before the accident occurred, young Knight had written his mother that his job would end the following day and he would be at home the same week.

He was killed on the day he intended to quit. His death has divulged the fact that fatal accidents are an everyday occurrence at the World’s Fair buildings, sometimes reaching as high as six or seven per day. The matter is kept a secret as much as possible and only relatives notified of an accident when any occurs.

The coroner’s verdict in Knight’s case was that he met death through the carelessness of the bridge company for whom he was working. It is probable a suit of damages will be brought against the company.
