Deceased was born in a house that once stood on the farm now owned by Col. R. G. Evans almost eighty-nine years ago.
He had been married three times. His first wife was Miss America Stockton, a sister of Mrs. Kate Walker who died at Parksville many years ago. His second wife was Miss Elizabeth Sevier. His last wife was Miss Sallie Mahan, the sister of our well known townsman, Mr, Geo. D. Mahan.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and a more earnest Christian man never lived. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and we believe one who has been a member for a longer time than anyone in Kentucky, having been made a Mason in early life.
His last wife preceded him to the grave about four years. Since that time he had spent most of his time with his daughter, Mrs. Mollie B. Raines on third street in this city. The devotion of this daughter to the aged father was simply beautiful.
He was a great reader and a fine conversationalist. His retentive memory made him always an interesting companion. He had been remarkably strong, both mentally - and physically until about two years ago, since that time, while his mind was clear, he had not been so active. Notwithstanding his age, his death came as a great shock to his children and friends. .
He was the father of thirteen children. Mrs. Mollie B. Raines, of this city and Mrs. Wm. Tadlock, of Lexington the only ones residing in this state.
The body arrived in this place yesterday at noon and was taken in charge by the members of the Masonic Lodge, burial following in Bellevue Cemetery. ,:
