He was the son of Mary Bridget Russell and James Augestus. He had a loving marriage to Elizabeth M Signs until her death in Apr 1956.

James was the Chief Of Police of Springfield, Montgomery, Pennsylvania in 1915. In 1921 he joined the Philadelphia Police as a Foot Patrol Policeman until he retired in the 1950's.

They had 5 daughters Helen Grace Rosenberger, Elizabeth Tromantina, Marie Perry, Claire Jane Baron and Mary who pasted away at 2 months old and 1 son James Russell,Jr, and 9 Grandchildren- Helen and Grace Bohle and Earl Jr who past away at 2 month old, Robert and Patrica Rosenberger, Albert Tromantina, Dorothy Perry, Kenneth Hall and Betty Robinson, and 5 Great Grandchildren - Robert and James Arndt and Diane and Carolyn Long, Mark Tromantina.
