William's obituary appeared in the November 5, 1926 issue of the Hamilton Herald-Record newspaper. It read: W. B. Cornelius, for forty-four years a resident of the Landham community, in Hamilton county, was called to his eternal home last Saturday, October 30, at 9:00 in the morning. Death came in a Wichita Falls sanitarium where he had been conveyed some ten days before for treatment. His sons, Fred Cornelius, of Amarillo, and Rufe Cornelius, of this city, were with him when the end came. The body was conveyed to Amarillo to be laid to rest on Monday, November 1, Mrs. Cornelius, the lonely and sorrowing companion and their daughter, Miss Jennie Cornelius, accompanied the body to the Panhandle city where he sleeps and where his widow and two of his daughters, Misses Jennie and Ruby Cornelius, will reside in the future. Other members of the family were prevented from attending the funeral by illness in their homes.
The Herald-Record is privileged to give the following brief sketch of the life of this good man and loyal citizen. W.B. Cornelius was born in Blunt [Blount] county, Alabama, 79 years ago, and came to Texas forty-five years ago, one year later coming to Hamilton county and settling in the Landham community on a farm, rearing a family of four sons and four daughters and contributing a noble life to the betterment of his community and county. Besides his wife, eighty years of age, and the daughters mentioned above he is survived by Rex, Fred, and Coit Cornelius of Amarillo, and Rufe Cornelius of Hamilton; and Mrs. D.C. Ashmore, of Wolf City, Texas. He is also mourned by ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist church and was faithful to every duty of life. He had been ill for some three years and in his affliction his family gave him every care and employed every means known for his restoration but death alone could relieve him, and the knowledge that he has gone home to God where there is no more suffering nor sorrow is a comfort to those whose hearts were made sad by the separation. The Herald-Record joins the other numerous friends of the family in offering for their consolation our sincere sympathy.

From the Hamilton Herald-Record, August 2, 1929: The Body of W.B. Cornelius Was Brought Here. Fred Cornelius is here this week from Amarillo for a visit with his mother and sisters, Mrs. W.B. Cornelius and Misses Jennie and Ruby Cornelius, and to complete arrangements for the re-burial of the body of his beloved father, W.B. Cornelius, in the New Old Fellows cemetery in this city. Mr. Cornelius had the body of his father, who died in Amarillo, Oct. 27, 1927, shipped over the railroad to Hamilton, while he came in his automobile, and was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Joe B. Woodward and her baby, Edna Jo, of Dallas, who have been with Mr. Cornelius since the death of his wife and the mother of Mrs. Woodward some weeks back. The body reached Hamilton at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, July 21, and was taken in charge by the J.M. & A.H. Williams undertaking establishment and laid to rest here where the bereaved widow and daughters may have the privilege of visiting his grave often. Mrs. Cornelius and all the members of her family except two daughters, Mrs. O.E. Bowles, of the Lanham community, and Mrs. D.C. Ashmore, of Dallas, were living in Amarillo at the time of her husband's death. Recently she returned to make her home in Hamilton. The late W.B. Cornelius was one of Hamilton county's most highly respected and influential citizens, and it is fit that his body rest in a cemetery in our midst.
