Gottlieb Hartman, 98, Kulm, N.D., died Oct. 7, 2009, at his daughter's home in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Hartman was born March 26, 1911, at Ashley, N.D., the son of August and Katie (Wendland) Hartman. He married Delores Fregien on Sept. 25, 1938. They farmed 8 miles south of Kulm. He served on the state Farmers Union Board as well as many county and local boards. They also traveled for peace missions, representing the American farmer, to 26 countries and 49 states. They hosted more than 140 foreign visitors from 24 countries at their farm. She died in February 1988. He was a lifelong member of the Kulm Congregational Church, where he served as an usher and auditor over the years.
He is survived by two sons, Gerald (Carolyn) Hartman, Boise, Idaho, and Larry, Keystone, S.D.; a daughter, Karen Gorman, Chicago; a sister, Alma Wells, Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter-in-law, Norma.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm. Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Burial: Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm.
