Paul J. Messina, 84, of Port Arthur passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Medical Center in Port Arthur with his family at his side. Paul was born on September 11, 1925, in Port Arthur, Texas to Josephine Costanza Messina and John Messina. He had lived in Port Arthur all of his life and was a World War II Navy Veteran. Paul was a graduate of St. Mary High School and got his accounting degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He was an accountant at the Gulf Oil Refinery from 1951 until he retired in 1986 and was also a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he also served as an usher. Paul loved to garden and do volunteer work but mostly loved to spend time with his family. A Chapel service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with Father Duc Q. Duong officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include his sons, John Messina and his wife Carla of Corpus Christi, Texas and William Messina of Austin, Texas; daughters, Candace Meyers and her husband Ronald of Houston, Lisa Colten and her husband David of Nederland and Laura Messina of Austin; brother, Joseph Messina of Maryland; sister, Rosemary Griffiths of Port Arthur; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren
