Prominent songleader and songwriter in the Restoration Movement. He was the third of nine children. He taught at the College of the Bible in Lexington. He worked with James A. Harding. He sang for gospel meetings conducted by Hall L. Calhoun.

Composer and conductor of music for religious assemblies and musical conventions; teacher of voice, harmony and musical composition. Also musical editor for The Standard Publishing Co. Author of following song books: "Voice of Praise." " American Stand School Singer," "Beautiful Songs of Zion," and "Crown of Beauty," by Leonard Daugherty and Jas. H. Rosecrans.
