Gene Gilbert Ryan, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Reidland, Ky., to Roy and Nancy Pugh Ryan. He and Jewell Jenkins were married Aug. 8, 1948, in Cape Girardeau.

Ryan was a soft drink salesman for Coca-Cola and 7-Up Bottling Co. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

He was a 1947 graduate of Central High School, where he played basketball. He was an avid sports fan and was very active in youth baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Ryan; a son, John Ryan and wife Carolyn of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Richard Ryan of Jackson; and two grandchildren, Amy and Christian Ryan of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jeff Long and Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to charity of choice.
