Catherine Mackin was a national television news broadcaster, reporter and an excellent all-around journalist.

She is survived by her parents and sister. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerard and Michael.

She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a B.A. degree in English and minors in economics and history.

After graduation, Mackin obtained a position at the NEWS AMERICAN in Baltimore, Md. She gained experience on TV by appearing on local news shows. The Hearst newspapers hired her for their Washington Bureau, covering the Justice Department, numerous elections, and presidential campaigns

In 1967, Mackin (became one of the few women) to receive a Neiman Fellowship to Harvard University.

Cassie Mackin was hired by the Baltimore NBC TV station. There, she garnered national attention. She became NBC's first woman floor reporter at the Democratic and Republican Presidential Conventions. Next, she became the NBC Sunday Evening Anchor and the network's Congressional Correspondent in 1974.

Mackin joined ABC Television Network as their Washington correspondent in 1977.

Assigned to the 1980 Presidential Campaign, Cassie Mackin extensively covered Senator Edward Kennedy in his bid for the nomination.

She also appeared on 'THIS WEEK WITH DAVID BRINKLEY' on ABC.

Mackin deveoped cancer. Her health failing, in 1981 she moved to Baltimore to live with her family. She had a kidney removed in an effort to improve her health problems.

Cassie Mackin died at the age of 43 due to complications of cancer.
