Barbara inherited her paternal grandmother's operatic voice and excelled in both the dramatic and fine arts. In high school, she especially enjoyed acting and singing in school musicals. After graduating from what is now Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove, Florida, she was graduated from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University. She was fluent in several languages, with French being her favorite, and was teaching languages at the time of her death. She and a cherished ex-sister-in-law, Sarah Dullenkopf Ernst, were killed when a drunk driver ran into the car in which they were passengers. Barb loved her Lab-Dalmation-mix dog, Sack, and was a gourmet cook. She was adored by her family, and has been painfully missed through the years.
