Mrs. Martha Marler
Death came suddenly and unexpectedly to Mrs. Martha Marler of this city, Friday evening and was a great shock to her family and friends. While she had not been well for some time she had been up and around and doing her work as usual. At 10:30 she became ill and died within a half hour.
Quiet in speech and manner, her life was one of service and faithfulness to obligations as her children, her sisters and brother, and other relatives and friends will testify. Her interest in her children was that of a true mother, and it extended to include the comforts and happiness of her grandchildren.
Martha W. Barnes, daughter of Archibald and Jessie Barnes, was born January 8, 1872, at Malden, Mass. and passed away at her home in Glasco, March 17, 1939, aged 67 years, 2 months abd 9 days.
At the age of eight years she came to Kansas with her parents and settled near Delphos. Later they moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles southeast of Glasco, where she lived until her marriage in 1892 when she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Stephen A. Marler, who preceded her in death, January 5, 1937. To this union four daughters and one son were born; Mrs. Olie Righter of Delphos; Mrs. Essie Keener of Glasco; Earl Marler of Granite City, Ill.; Mrs. Ruth Burrough of Delphos, and a twin sister of Mrs. Essie Keener, Jessie, who died in infancy.
She was baptized in the Christian faith in the Methodist church of Malden, Mass. When able, she attended the church and enjoyed its services. For 24 years she has been a member of the Rebekah lodge of Delphos. To her family she was a kind and loving mother.
Besides her children she leaves to mourn her going, three sisters, Mrs. L.B. Conover of Coolidge, Kansas; Mrs. Jessie Rice of Strasburg, Colo.; Mrs. Lizzie Wright of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Archibald Barnes of Hobart, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Johnnie Keener, Carroll Righter, Donna, George and Howard Burrough, other near relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 20, at the Methodist church with Rev. Roy Allsbury officiating. Interment was made in the Glasco cemetery under the direction of Lott & Stine, morticians.
