Nathaniel Hacker was the second of seven children born to Jonathan and Catherine (Herring) Hacker. His siblings were:

1. Eliza Jane Hacker, 1826-1837
2. Silas Colvan Hacker, 1839-1863
3. Thomas Fletcher Hacker, 1832-?
4. Mary Elizabeth Hacker Karns, 1835-1854
5. Catherine Louisa Hacker Smith, 1839-?
6. Jonathan Franklin Hacker, 1842-1915

The photo at the top on the right is of Nathaniel and his wife, Sarah Ann (Smith) Hacker and was taken 1880-1890.
Nathaniel and Sarah Ann Smith, daughter of William and Mary Smith, were married in Huntington County, Indiana on 18 February 1851.

They became the parents of the following ten children:

1) John married Catherine Elizabeth "Libby" Babb on 17 Feb 1876 in Champaign Co., IL

2) Sylvester died at the age of 6 years

3) Orrin was a construction worker. He married Mrs. Nannie L. Waterman on 6 Jan 1897 in Champaign Co., IL

4) William married (1) Sarah Rosanna Russell on 27 Sept 1881 in Champaign Co., IL; (2) Harriett Eggleston

5) Martha Jane married James E. Morris on 7 Feb 1878 in Champaign Co., IL.

6) Laura B. married Francis W. Wagner on 23 June 1885 in Ford Co., IL.

7) Mary Catherine married George Sherman Pitsenberger on 16 Sept 1892 in Champaign Co., IL.

8) Ella M. married John I. Dawson on 18 Nov. 1899 in Champaign Co., IL.

9) Margaret Ann married Spencer Evans on 3 Jan. 1894 in Champaign Co., IL.

10) Benjamin Franklin married May "Unknown"


Nathaniel Wilson Hacker was a Civil War Veteran. He served as a Private with the 54th Indiana Infantry.
