Shelby Chandler, 82, of Camp Creek W.Va., died July 5, 2003, after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. M. "Bird" and Ethel Scagg Chandler; three brothers, Oddis , Adrian and Wayne Chandler; three sisters, Bernice Dotson, Ruth Hayes and Mildred Chandler. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired coal miner for Hobet with 15 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elva Hooser Chandler; son Nelwyn Gene Chandler of Milton; daughter and son in law, Sandra and Danny Holstein of Danville; three grandsons, Joe Holstein of Danville, Sean Chandler of Denver, Colo., and Aaron Chandler of Covington Ky.; two sisters, Arlene Hayes of Camp Creek and Carrie Miller of Berra, Ohio; three great grandsons and three great granddaughters. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, W. Va., with Rev. Allen Skeens officiating. Burial will follow at Lovejoy Cemetery, Palermo, W. Va. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
