Mr. Hood was born January 24, 1931 in Abilene to U. L. and Elsie Kirk Hood. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from the Abilene Reporter-News after 41 years where he worked as a pressman.
Darell was an avid golfer and played as often as possible at Copperas Hollow Country Club in Caldwell where he was loved and respected by all. He was a devoted family man and always enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David V. Hood; two brothers, Howard Hood and Dwight Hood and a sister, Selma Hood.
Survivors include his wife of almost 58 years, Helen Hood of Caldwell; a son, Jimmy D. Hood of Marble Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and David McNeely of Caldwell and Donna and Malcolm Ricks of Abilene; a brother, Maurice Hood of Midland; a sister Julia Stefaniak of Illinois; four grandchilden, Bonnie Hood of Grandbury, Brooke Shefflett of Abilene, Staci Mance and husband, Dustin of Abilene and Brian McNeely and wife, Kolby of San Antonio and seven great-grandchildren.
