Samuel Hawkins notes that the finance committee of the Baptist Church holds a meeting at the Kendrick home. J. A. Kendrick and Sons, which is later known successively as Kendrick & Wheatley, T. Wheatley, Wheatley & Ansley, and Charles L. Ansley, is a forerunner of the modern department store and ultimately fell victim to the stock market crash of 1929.
