S.J. (Jack) Preece, 91, whose family was among the early settlers of Lawrence County, died at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the home of a son, C. Harvey Preece, Route 3, Louisa, following an extended illness. Mr. Preece, a retired lumberman and farmer, was born November 2, 1858, near Inez, Ky., A son of the late Cornelius and Loucretia Maynard Preece. His wife, Mrs. Sarah Jane Harding Preece, sied several years ago. He had been a member of the United Baptist Church for 40 years. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m with the Rev. H.G.Preece officiating. Burial was in the Delong Cemetery, Route 3, Louisa. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W.P. Farley, Davella, Ky., Mrs. W. H. Hardin, Gallup, Ky., and Mrs. J. A. Delong, Route 3, Louisa, and three sons, Phillip Preece, Louisa, J.H. Preece, Route 4, Louisa and Ernest Preece, Route 3, Louisa; 2 sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hale, Pilgram.
