Our Lord and Savior has called home one of His Warriors. During the early morning hours of Friday, April 29, 2022, in Woodsboro, Texas, Johnny Goodwin, 92 began his eternal resting with our heavenly Father. His family was at his bedside.

A visitaton will be held at the Tankersley Funeral Home on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford.

Johnny was born May 7, 1929 in Barnwell, South Carolina to John Henry and Eula Mae Robinson. He was reared in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He graduated from Wilkinson High School where he excelled in football.

Johnny proudly served his country for 10 years, enlisted in the United States Air Force. He is a Veteran of The Korean War. He was a life member of the Stamford VFW Post 9179, serving as Post Commander 1998-2012 with a second short term more recently. He also was a member of the Haskell American Legion Post 221.

Johnny was a wise, gentle man with a passion of sharing "life's instructions" with his family, friends and anyone who would listen. His favorite pastime was fishing, mentoring and coaching his grandchildren and spending time with his VFW friends.

In October 1968, Johnny married the love his life, Ruby Lee Goodwin, who preceded him in death.

He worked for the City of Roswell, New Mexico for more than 35 years. He was a Supervisor for 19 years before retiring and moving to Stamford with his late wife, in March 1992.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his two daughters, JoAnn Brown and Maria Hart and his grandson, Terry Dewayne Richardson, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, nieces and nephews.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Goodwyn (Walter) McArthur of Columbia, South Carolina, one brother, Theodore Robinson of Fort Lee, New Jersey, five grandchildren, Billy Joe Richardson, Jr. of Jacksboro, Texas, Marion LaVerne (Brown) Matthews, of Columbia, South Carolina, Jacqueline Y'Vette (Walter) Lott, of Woodsboro, Texas, Steven Raye Richardson, of Stamford, Texas and LaToshia LaNette (Robert) Avery, of Woodsboro, Texas, seventeen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, his special cousin, Mary (Mae) Robinson of Orangeburg, South Carolina, a very special nephew, Leo Dillard, Jr., his bonus granddaughters, Tanisha Anderson of Abilene, Texas and Ramona Casas Corral of Hobbs, New Mexico, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, including his forever friends, Marty West Herron and Kathy Phillips. An amazing Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend to many, Johnny "Grandpa", "Old Man", "Uncle Tippy" Goodwin will be dearly missed.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all of you who have been there for us. Your phone calls, texts, cards, flowers, food, visits and prayers have been most comforting in our time of sorrow.
