Mertztown – The bursting of a whizzer in the Long Valley Rug Mill at this place caused the death of one man and another was probably fatally injured.

The dead man is Wilson Fegley, Jr., aged 23 years, of this place, who was instantly killed. Daniel Alexander, aged 20 years, also of Mertztown, is in the Allentown Hospital with both legs broken at the hip and is suffering from body bruises. His condition is serious.

The two men were the only employees in the dye house, where the whizzer is located, at the time of the accident, and no one knows just how the mishap occurred. The accident happened about 10:30 o'clock. The whizzer is a contrivance used to throw the dye water from the rags before they are placed away to dry. It is about 30 inches in diameter and has the shape of a bowl. The machine is made of metal and in its operation it makes many revolutions per minute.

Fegley leaves his widow and a two-year-old daughter. Mrs. Fegley was formerly Miss Lottie Tyson.
