CANADIAN - Roy A. "Dick" Dickinson, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Gary Jahnel officiating and the Rev. Donald Hill assisting. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.

Dick was born Aug. 4, 1919, in Mangum, Okla., to the late Andrew Pickens Dickinson and Martha Minerva Boone Dickinson. He attended Zybach schools in Wheeler County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Dick was stationed in Germany, where he served as driver of an artillery half track.

He married Laura Lee Snyder on May 12, 1945, in Canadian. She preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 1977.

He later married Evelyn Carr on Aug. 9, 1980, in Canadian. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2007.

He worked as a ranch hand and foreman for Alexander's, Webb's, Bower's, McMordie's and Begert's ranches.

Dick was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Roy D. "Buddy" Dickinson and wife Brenda and Bob Dickinson and wife Beverly, all of Canadian; a daughter, Carol Ruth Cannady and husband Dennis of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Susie Parkey and husband Tom of Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Robert Carr and wife Julie of Holdenville, Okla., and Dale Carr of Canadian; three stepdaughters, Tex Satterwhite and husband Don of Higgins, Okla., Noreen Rux and husband Richard of Archer City and Carol Ann Wilson and husband George of Canadian; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials be to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South Fourth St., Canadian, TX 79014.

Viewing will be at the church.
